Opening Ceremony
With the marching in of the 26 national teams accompanied by the brass band Unterföhring e. V. the opening ceremony of the 11th European Deaf Bowling Championships in Munich-Unterföhring began at the biggest Bowling Center in Europe, the Dream Bowl Palace.
Local children led the countries to their designated places for the opening ceremony.
The highly international character of the event was a central topic of the speeches of the present notables who all appeared impressed by the event’s dimensions.
Rainer Kühn, head of the organizing committee and of the bowling department of the German Deaf Sports Association, began the order of speeches followed by DGS Secretary General Diana Aleksic who introduced the guests of honor.
Betina Mäusel, second mayor of Unterföhring, was pleased by having such a big sports event in her town and the manager of the Dream Bowl Palace declared he was ready for the upcoming competitions.
The representative of the German Ministry for the Interior, Denise Henrion, offered a word of greeting towards the delegations as well.
Last to speak was EDSO president Bjorn Roine who officially declared the European Championships open after the hoisting of the EDSO flag.
Tomorrow the competitions start.
